Hess-Hathaway Park
Hess-Hathaway Park is one of the most popular Waterford Township parks for nature lovers. It boasts a large playground, farm animals, trails, a community garden, and more!
The park was donated to the township in 1985 by Mrs. Myrtle Hess, who wanted her property to be used by the citizens of Waterford for their enjoyment and recreation.
She had a plan, and that plan was to create a family-friendly community. This has worked beautifully as families come together to enjoy the outdoors, the park, and its many attractions.
The kids love to play on the fully enclosed, accessible for all abilities, barn-themed All Kids Playground. The park also has a petting zoo, a historical barn, and several farm animals to see. You can even sponsor a farm animal by completing a form.
Historic Waterford Village
Originally a Quaker village, the Historic Waterford Village area traces its roots back to circa 1733 when Amos Janney and his fellow Friends established a mill complex. In 1794 the community became the first incorporated village in the state and the southern terminus of both the Erie Canal and Champlain Canal.
The district contains an exceptionally rich and diverse concentration of architectural associations. It is typified by a high concentration of Federal period brick townhouses with stepped gables and Greek Revival frame dwellings with full porticos.
The district has a wealth of early industrial buildings as well. At the northern end of Third Street is the Robert Reis and Company mill (circa 1896) with a brick corbeled tower. Discover more exciting places here.

The Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, with its scenic interior containing lakes, forests, and old farm fields offers residents and visitors a variety of year-round recreational opportunities. The 3,745-acre park offers hiking, biking, camping, horseback riding, and fishing.

Waterford Oaks County Park
Pontiac Lake Recreation Area is a 3,745-acre park rich in marshes, ponds, heavy forests, and old farm fields. It’s a popular recreation destination for swimming, fishing, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
The lake is situated along a beautiful, wooded shoreline and offers plenty of opportunities for kayaking or canoeing. The park is also home to a variety of other activities, including hiking trails and picnic areas.
Waterford Oaks County Park is a 185-acre facility near Pontiac, which includes a waterpark, BMX track, and more. It’s also home to several trails, a universally accessible playground, and a greenhouse.
