The Farm
Get a glimpse of rural life at the Farm Center. Our 250-acre working farm brings you face-to-face with live animals and the rich agricultural heritage of Michigan. You’ll also learn about the many aspects of dairy and wool production, soil and water conservation, food processing, sustainable agriculture, and modern farming techniques.
You’ll also find a great variety of seasonal activities at Kensington. You can cross-country ski or toboggan on the sledding hills or visit the giant splash pad and ADA-accessible playground.
A farm is an ideal place for groups to host events or a picnic. It features a four-season rental pavilion, which can seat up to 400 people.
The property is also home to a golf course, the Black Locust Disc Golf Course, which has 27 holes and is a favorite among disc golfers. It’s located in a scenic wooded hilly area at the park and is available for rent to local clubs or groups.
The Barn
The Barn at Farm Center of Kensington Metropark Milford MI offers a variety of stalls and facilities to accommodate horses. The main barn boasts 4 stalls, a trainer’s tack closet, and a small arena area that’s great for lunging groundwork, and flat work.
The second barn is just a few steps away with 5 additional stalls, a trainer’s area, and a hay loft. The third barn is also located on-site and has a full bath for boarders and individual lockers.
The Barn at Farm Center of Kensington Metropark is a popular attraction and a must-visit for animal lovers. It’s home to a wide variety of farm animals including chickens, goats, sheep, and cows. There’s also a Discovery Zone, a fun Michigan museum for kids ages 3 to 12 that’s filled with interactive exhibits. The Poultry House
The poultry house is a building that provides shelter, warmth, and shade for the birds. It also contains nesting boxes for the hens to lay eggs.
Unlike modern mass confinement poultry houses, chickens on this farm are allowed to roam around freely. This allows them to develop a natural immunity to local pests and diseases.
This approach to farming is more labor intensive but helps the animals build up hardier genetics that better adapts to their environment. It is an example of heritage preservation and a commitment to conservation agriculture.
Before modern mass confinement systems, young pullets were often raised in “colony houses” that provided movable shelter and sometimes housed feed and water. These small, portable structures were sited near the farmhouse to facilitate constant tending.
The Green Building
Whether you are a nature lover or simply looking for a great family vacation, Kensington Metropark is a must-visit. It offers everything from hiking trails and a beachside water park to boating and sledding hills in the winter.

The Green Building at the Farm Center is a three-story structure that was carefully designed to immerse visitors into a dynamic environmental learning experience from the moment they arrive on-site through their entire visit. It reflects the historic context of the site through wood and stone features, and it was built in a manner that does not overwhelm the environment.
